SCR-N Series Compressors for Nitrogen Compression

SCR comes to the market with a unique series of SCR-N screw compressors designed for industrial compression of nitrogen gas.

SCR-N compressors are mainly used in the chemical industry in methanol production processes. During the production of methanol, a flammable process gas is used in the synthesis stage of production, which synthesizes methanol using a catalyst at a temperature range of 220 to 260 °C. As soon as the supply of process gas is finished, it is necessary to fill the relevant pipelines and reservoirs with nitrogen gas and prevent the access of atmospheric air. Thanks to its inert properties, nitrogen ensures the possible occurrence of a fire or explosion.

Nitrogen is often produced in chemical plants by a fractional distillation column, which separates it at a low overpressure at the level of around 30 kPa (0,3 bar) into the process gas pipeline, it must be compressed to an overpressure of around 7 bar.

For this and other similar applications in the chemical and petrochemical industry, the SCR Research & Development department has developed a new series of SCR-N compressors, which are equipped with a two-stage oil-free screw block ensuring zero nitrogen contamination and maximum compression efficiency with low electrical power consumption. The SCR-N series is further equipped with several special design elements, such as a suction filter equipped with pressure bearings ensuring a nitrogen suction pressure of 1 bar without leaks, a labyrinth oil seal and a stainless steel air seal in the screw block providing double protection against nitrogen contamination, stainless steel rotors and a special UltraCoatTM surface of the rotors and inner walls of the block.

The new series of SCR-N compressors is available in a wide range of power outputs from 37 to 280 kW with a supplied nitrogen transport capacity from 252 to 2910 Nm3/h and is supplied as standard in versions with an output pressure of 7, 8 and 10 bar. In addition to the standard version with fixed speed, SCR-N compressors can also be supplied in a version with speed control by frequency converter.

The press department of the manufacturer SCR published the fresh information that the first compressors from the new SCR-N series were successfully installed at the first customer in Singapore this week.
